Amazing preservation on this crab carapace! Mother nature did a great prep job as well, gonna slap a bit of B72 on there and call it done ๐Ÿ˜

It's a pretty large concretion, weighs about 20kg. The species is a Tumidocarcinus giganteus from the middle Miocene. Found yesterday here in New Zealand.

Have a look at this great bone cluster! I think I can make out some fishy bits ๐Ÿ˜ It was too large to move but great detail in it. Had a great day down at the beach today, I'll post some more of the finds tomorrow ๐ŸŸ๐Ÿฆˆ

I was exploring the Mackenzie district today and found a layer of large shells! Great preservation on them and the matrix was nice and soft ๐Ÿ˜ unsure on the age or species but will do some reading up on them.

It's a bit mind bending to find fossil shells so far from the ocean.

I'm re-looking at a block of Cretaceous bones I found earlier in the year. I thought it could have been paddle bones at first but now I'm thinking they look more like vertebrae after someone pointed it out. Any plesiosaur or mosasaur experts out there that can help me out?

My tiniest crab I've found so far ๐Ÿฆ€ of course it had to be in a 50kg piece of rock ๐Ÿ˜‚ managed to lug it the 3km back to the car, I didnt want to take a chance and try and break the rock into smaller chunks. I'm thinking it might be a tiny Tumidocarcinus giganteus, but not sure on that.

EDIT: Not a Tumidocarcinus ๐Ÿคฉ

I was lucky enough to find this concretion and it's lid yesterday after it had fallen out of the cliff. It hasnt been bashed by the tide yet so in really good condition! Went back today to fetch it and managed to get it to the car after a 3 hour struggle ๐Ÿ˜‚

I need some help IDing what I am looking at. I'm pretty sure it is a cretaceous marine reptile but I'm not recognizing that bone shape. Anyone have any idea?

Surprise vert! Another large vert possibly from the same shark as the previous post. I took this concretion home, not expecting much from it. It's from the paleocene era. Swipe to see the concretion before I knocked it open. There are some perfect moulds of the vert visible on the other pieces.

Check out the full video on my YouTube account. Link in bio or search for "mamlambo fossils"

One of my best finds to date, some massive associated cretaceous or paleocene shark verts! Swipe to see them slightly cleaned up. I need to get in there and prep them a bit. Check out my YouTube channel for the full video, link in my bio.

I went on an exploring mission today, 10km in 3 hours ๐Ÿ˜ Found a nice shark vert, fish skull?, and a great layer of fossil shells. Also, a hardhat with some large barnacles on it. I was spoiled by the sunset, complete with a family of black swans ๐Ÿฆƒ swipe for more photos.

A beautiful fossil crab sent to me by a friend recently. It's a Harpactocarcinus punctulatus from the middle eocene (47.8 - 38mya), one of my oldest crab fossils. It has been skillfully prepped and is one of my favourite fossils ๐Ÿฆ€

I found some biiiiig fossil crabs recently, together those 2 weigh more than 30kg. The video of me finding them is out now on my YouTube channel, link in my bio ๐Ÿ˜

I found a big of exposed rock I had never seen before, the wave action must have uncovered them for the first time in many years!

I managed to get hold of a Miocene dolphin periotic to compare against the one I found in a concretion. Very similar in shape... if you squint and use your imagination ๐Ÿ˜

I'll continue the prep work soon ๐Ÿฌ

I found this beautiful Tumidocarcinus giganteus crab yesterday, it had just been washed out by a wave and still has some foam on it ๐Ÿ˜ I live the ones that are prepped by mother nature!

Some amazing fossil shark teeth I found recently. I'm also really happy with how the photos come out using my microscope.

I managed to get this amazing microscope on an auction ๐Ÿ˜ it has such clear optics, really makes the shark teeth come alive! I'm going to attach it to an metal arm / boom so I can use it to prep really delicate fossils. Swipe for some test pics of teeth I recently found.

A 40kg (100lb) block of limestone stacked full of large bones ๐Ÿ˜ I suspect it is Oligocene in age. Swipe to see some detail on the bones. I'm looking forward to prepping it once my hand heals up. It was a great day out, even if the weather didn't play along ๐ŸŒจ
