I'm absolutely blown away by this piece of art Bill M from the UK sent me π€© it's a scene from one of my videos where I fetch a large fossil with my little red wagon, how amazing is that??? And the bottom half have some actual fossils covered in a clear resin. I see some shark teeth, a belemnite, a shark vert and a few ammonites!! Thanks so much Bill!
This is the result of sifting through 9kg of siltstone from a lag layer... 60+ micro fossil shark teeth! I think I see some dalatias and some squalid in there. Some of them are less than 1mm in length! So many other cool things in there as well including some forams in there as well π€© There's even a tiny fish / shark vertebrae in there. I'm finishing off the editing of the video where I break down the siltstone using sodium hexametaphosphate, it should be out this week still. Head over to my website for my YouTube link and some of my other finds.
Found a collection of bones in a clay layer today. Not sure if they are modern and just got mixed in with the clay during heavy rains. π€ anyone recognize the animal it could be from? The scapula looks like it could be recognizable to someone. Maybe I just found the remains of some fossil hunter's lunch π
I'll be showing some of my fossils and giving a short talk on some of the fossils I have found over the last while at the Christchurch Mineral and Lapidary Club at 110 Waltham Road, Christchurch. Entrance is $5 I think as a club guest. All welcome π I have a sneak preview of something pretty cool I've found π€ Thursday 10 Sept 2020 at 7 30pm Pictured are some of my crabs π¦
Time to play my favourite Sunday night game, fish-or-not-fish, with my latest fossil find π found this little bone cluster yesterday and the there appears to be a very definite joint in the one section. So vertebrate fossil experts, please let me know what you think π Found in a Miocene coastal deposit
One of my best fossil finds, cetacean ear bones, is on it's way to Te Papa Tongarewa - Museum of New Zealand, for further study. It's quite rare to find the bulla and periotic together like this and it was my first ever ear bones that I found so will always be special to me. Hopefully I will be able to give an update on it in the future π
