A nice big piece of Pleistocene Moa bone I found in the hills of New Zealand. The last Moa went extinct around 500 years ago though rumours of surviving pockets have persisted.
The bone feels to be fossilized, and should be around 100 000 years old based on the layer I found it in.
This photo is pre-isolation. Stay home and stay safe!

I'm working on the video in which I found this bone, it should be done later in the week.

Swipe to see the result. Quick Tumidocarcinus crab prep of the ventral side. 2.5 hours work, can probably still spend the same amount of time again to do the detail.

Here's a strange bit of Miocene beach deposit bone, it looks like it's forming a circle around that one point. Has anyone seen something like this before? Swipe for more pictures

That feeling when you see a crab leg sticking out after spending 15 min digging a 'maybe' concretion! Still need to prep this beast as well ๐Ÿฆ€

Okay, time to tackle the big boy crab ๐Ÿ˜ my latest crab is sitting on top of my next project, a 25 kg (50lbs) fossil crab concretion. This is going to quite a prep job!

My fossil crab family is growing! ๐Ÿฆ€๐Ÿฆ€๐Ÿฆ€ I'm hoping to add another two or three during lockdown. All are tumidocarcinus giganteus except the one pulalius vulgaris from Washington state.

Oh and they are posing on my Cretaceous era petrified wood log ๐Ÿ˜

I've been prowling the neighborhood landscaping rocks for any sign of fossils and found a big chunk of whale bone in the one! No idea of the age or origin, but there could be other fossils to be found!

I'm a sucker for big pieces of cetacean bone, especially early in the morning with a beautiful sunrise ๐Ÿ˜
I just had to carry this one home. Guessing it's some whale bone from a Miocene deposit.

I think this crab is done! My first time prepping both sides, I was so nervous it was going to come apart. The whole crab was starting to vibrate!

Now to process the time-lapse. 15 hours of 4K footage, 450gb ๐Ÿ˜‚

Keep an eye on my YouTube channel for it.

Really defined growth rings on this piece of petrified wood from Motunau. It was just chilling a rock pool with some kelp.

I don't often find pet wood there, mostly crabs and whale bones so this was a nice surprise ๐Ÿฆ€๐Ÿฆ€

This is probably the tiniest bone I've found, probably modern but it counts cause I was out fossil hunting ๐Ÿ˜‚ I'm thinking mouse, maybe there was a hawk nest nearby.

Amazing preservation on this Miocene era Tumidocarcinus Giganteus crab. It's been my weekend project and I'm about 2/3 of the way done.

Going to try and get as much prepping done as I can in the next 4 weeks.

A sneaky moa toe bone hiding in some mud! I love finding moa bones, especially identifiable bits like this.
Soon my FrankenMoa shall live! ๐Ÿ’€๐Ÿฆ– Video of the full hunt is up, link in my bio.

Another cretaceous find. Anyone want to hazard a guess at what it could be? Very round shape to it and looks to be bone.

I found the tiniest cretaceous era paddle bone today ๐Ÿ˜ guessing it's from a baby plesiosaur ๐Ÿฒ

My possible anchor stone is now in the care of the @canterburymuseum ๐Ÿ˜ just so happens that there is a visiting archeologist that can take a look at which is great! Will update as soon as I hear something.

New video up of me finding this section of cretaceous marine reptile paddle bone. Guessing plesiosaurus or mosasaurus.

The associated paddle bones are so amazing! I can count 9 of them, perhaps more still hidden away.
