A nice big cretaceous era shark tooth I just found. I'm always happy finding shark teeth, I rarely do! 😁 Anyone have any thoughts on the species?
The other side of fossil collecting... cataloging the finds 😁 Base layer or paraloid B72 and then some Indian ink for the numbering using a old school dip pen.
I'm hoping this is going to turn out to be one of the rare fossil crabs - Actinotocarcinus sp. Swipe to compare it to one I've found previously. Found it during a night time fossil hunt earlier this week. Time for some prepping 😁
Set of this evening to go fetch the potential stone anchor. Had to move fast to beat the tide and dark! Managed to make it back to the car in the dark without too much hassle, plus found this awesome crab (swipe for it). Hopefully one of the more rare species 😁🦀
I found another suspicious rock with a hole in it. This one seems to have been worked, the hole is much rougher than the rest of the stone. Swipe for a more modern artifact 😁 Let me know if you think it could have been an weight or anchor!

Just got back from a sneaky midweek hunt where I found this 500mm concretion with quite strange bones sticking out. Anyone have any idea what it could be? Miocene deposit in North Canterbury.
Any artifact experts out there? I found this stone today with a hole that seems to go all the way through. Could it be a stone anchor?

Today's fossil haul had a bit of everything. Crabs, whale bone, a seal jawbone and some unknowns that need investigating 😁
Some close ups of the (aturia?) nautiloid I found. Looks to be filled with some crystals and also has some pyritized sections. Found in a coastal Miocene deposit in New Zealand.
New video out where I finally find a Moa bone! And a tarsometatarsus as well 😁 It's such a chunky piece of bone! A unique piece of New Zealand history right there in my hand... I can't even begin to describe the feeling of finding this one.

Fossil whale bone with barnacles, 10km from the coast as well! Wonder what the story behind this is! It was also just lying on top of the grass 🤔

Found this crab claw sticking out of a beach rounded concretion. Flipped it over and voila! Beautiful crab! 😍🦀🦀
I came across this little fossil crab on walking back to my car in the dusk, in amongst the grass. Not even in a concretion! Not sure it is a small Tumidocarcinus or some other species. It's very fragile!
A new crab species for my collection! A Miocene era crab from near Motunau. Identified by the friendly people at the Canterbury museum as a Actinotocarcinus maclauchlani. Apparently it's quite rare 😁
