Had an agate hunt this morning at the Hinds river with @chris_caine_88. Didn't find much for the first 4 hours in the thunderstorm but then found these in 30min when the sun came out 😁
Found a concretion with a claw sticking out 😁 hope the rest of the crab is inside there, going to have to do a bit prepping to see.
Motunua island this morning as I was on my way to fetch the whale skull.
So it was a fossil whale skull! Got confirmation from the museum last night and went out this morning at 4am. What an adventure! Took 4 hours to get it up the hill, my wagon broke in the process but somehow got it in my car! Another bucket list item - a fossil skull!! It's probably from a smallish baleen whale and weighs about 150kg (330lbs).🐳🐋🐳 Video of this coming soon 😁
Found an enormous piece of whale bone today, almost reminds me of a skull! This was near Motunua beach. Anyone have any idea of what it could be?

A teeny tiny shark tooth I found this afternoon in a 60myo deposit. I don't often find shark teeth so I am really happy with this beauty! 😍
Unknown 45kg (100lb) cetacean bone concretion I just had to carry back from the Miocene cliffs 😁 Going to have to do some serious prep work on it to start figuring put if there is anything identifiable in there!
Well I think this crab is done. If I remove any more concretion it will get a bit fragile. I had to stabilise the claws and one leg with some paleobond but otherwise it was a dream to work on! 🦀🦀🦀
First time in 12 million years that this crab shell has seen light 😁 It's such a great crab to prep!
I had a great day finding petrified wood at the Conway river. Came back with some amazing pieces! Some of them are pretty large.
I had a curious seal come check me out at this early morning hunt. Wonder if it's the same one that chased me a few months ago? I might be in his spot 😁 Speaking of seals, I still need to find me a fossil seal jaw. It's on my list 😁
Petrified wood fresh from the river 😁 amazing detail and such heavily agatised sections.
Some cretaceous era bone protruding from a large rock. I'm going to guess it's from a large marine reptile. Probably a plesiosaur or mosasaur. Its beautifully preserved!
Found this interesting bone cluster, took it to the museum and the verdict is penguin or turtle 😁 I'm going to spend some time seeing if I can expose a key bone to aid in identifying it. Just uploaded the video of me finding it. Link in my bio.
Hunting for those Miocene fossils. Got to be something good down here 😁 It was a stunner of a day here in Middle Earth. Found a great crab not long after this pic was taken. Thanks @hdsoftail96 for the photo.
My first plesiosaur bone! It's from the paddle (think flipper) of one of those amazing reptiles 😁 It's been my mission every time I've gone out to this area and finally got one!! 🦕
Some beautiful petrified wood I found today in North Canterbury. Its has some really good agatised bits and a beautiful yellow color.
Found a 45kg crab concretion on the beach. It didn't all fit in my backpack so had to improvise 😁🐢 So excited to prep it, it's going to be a beauty I think!
